What is a school MIS?
A school MIS — management information system — is the central record of everything about your pupils: who they are, who to contact, who’s in today, how they’re doing, and what you have to report to government. Every other system in school, from the parent app to the reception desk, works off the data it holds.
Which systems can you move us from?
We migrate schools from Bromcom, SIMS and Arbor. Your pupils, contacts, records and history come across, we do the work, and you check it before anything goes live. If you’re on something else, ask — the answer is usually yes, and we’ll tell you straight away if it isn’t.
How long does it take to switch MIS?
Most schools are live within two to four weeks of saying yes. You don’t have to wait for every last year of history to move first — we get you running on the current year, then bring the archive across behind you.
Can we switch MIS mid-year?
Yes, at any point in the year. Plenty of suppliers will steer you towards a summer changeover; we don’t need to. Your old system stays on while your team learns on your own data, so there’s never a day where the school is caught between two systems.
What happens to our historic data?
All of it can come across. You tell us what you need and how far back, and we move it. You don’t have to wait for it to finish before going live: we get you running on the current year first and migrate the history behind you.
Does GroupEd One produce the school census?
Yes. One produces the English School Census for all three collections — autumn, spring and summer — and the Welsh PLASC return, built from the data you are already keeping day to day. There is no separate census module to buy and nothing to re-enter: the return comes from your registers and pupil records.
How does submitting the census work?
One validates the return first — mandatory fields especially — and tells you what is missing before it will generate the file, so gaps surface while there is still time to fix them. You then upload the generated file yourself. One’s job is making sure what you upload is already clean.
Is the census included, or is it an extra module?
Included. Census and statutory reporting are part of One at no extra cost — there are no add-ons and no tiers, so the price you see already has census in it. Worth checking against any other quote you are comparing, as statutory reporting is sometimes packaged separately.
